This publication focuses on the study of nineteenth century Americana brass bands and their history, instruments, literature and practices. This book portrays both in pictures and in narrative the colorful history of Civil War era military bands and instruments. Most of the 200 photographs that appear in the book have never been published before and focus on instruments that were made in America between 1840 and 1870.
