This book, printed on glossy, high quality paper, contains 64 magnificent shots of the wild and wonderful West Virginia. Payne’s love and reverence for West Virginia’s natural beauty, and his extraordinary ability with a camera, is evident throughout the book. Within its pages you’ll find everything from mountain peaks to river banks, the state’s great black bear, gorgeous whitewater and more. Besides the state’s natural wonders, it also features photos of the Italian Heritage Festival, the Charleston Distance Run, Marshall and WVU football—basically something for everyone. Payne says he hopes these photographs will remind you of your favorite places in the state, or places you’d like to visit. Get outside and explore West Virginia; it’s a very special place. A copy of West Virginia in Pictures will give you the incentive to start your travels.

PICTURE-PERFECT WEST VIRGINIA IN SOFT-COVER STYLE
Publication: THE SUNDAY GAZETTE-MAIL

The Quarrier Press of Charleston has released an interesting little book of photographs by noted West Virginia photographer Steve Payne titled "West Virginia in Pictures." The book has a pleasant small, horizontal layout - just right for perusing in the hand, unlike sometimes ungainly coffee table photo books.

What's also interesting is the glossiness of the 64 full-color photos in the paperback book, printed on solid stock, quality sometimes not associated with color photos in small paperback books. The photos themselves include a broad selection of traditional scenes of West Virginia, from old mills, deer and other scenery, to football players and The Greenbrier resort.

Except for the cover image, most of these photos are less the sort of shots that Payne has become known for in recent gallery showings - Zenlike closeups of water, rocks and leaves - and more the sort of attractive images of the state seen in calendars and promotions - a picture-perfect West Virginia in cost-conscious form.
